Imagine what it's like to be on the inside... the dome, illuminated by Clint Allen's projection design. It is a breathtaking experience! This "night sky image" is only a sneak peak!

Ship Ahoy! A gorgeous build undwerway

7/6/2015

Horse Head and our awesome volunteers have been busting it up in the shop for the last few weeks - and things are looking great! Check out the set design, well on it's way to completion.

A HUGE thank you to all that have helped, many of whom are not pictured in this album :)

Rejoice! Dome construction Video!

Q: What does it take to construct a 44' x 22' dome?
A: A little elbow grease and A LOT OF FRIENDS.

More Photos to come!

A GIANT thank you to our friends at The Silos at Sawyer Yards and Winter Street Studios for allowing us to set up the dome for a trial run.

A GIANT thank you to our many volunteers that made this possible - the list goes on and on!

The dome is up, but we'll be tearing it down soon - then reinstalling at our performance site, the Buffalo Bayou Partnership Silos this coming July.

Dome construction in progress!

Look at this gorgeous dome - this is about 1/3 constructed as of 6/17 @ 9PM

We are going back at it today starting at 5PM! HH and volunteers are working hard - if you'd like to lend a hand, email us at horseheadtheatreco@gmail.com subject line "DOME VOLUNTEER" and we'll send you the details :)

None of this would be possible without the support of Jon Deal & the staff of The Silos at Sawyer Yards who have graciously allowed us to set up the dome next to Winter Street Studios. A HUGE thank you to these Horse Head friends!

THE DOME HAS ARRIVED!!!!

6/16/2015

It's here! It's finally here!

44' wide x 22' tall - weighing in at a grand 2,435 LBS - is THE WHALE DOME! From Ireland to Texas - THE DOME IS IN THE HOUSE! (Sorry, I'm a little excited...)

Tropical Storm Bill has slightly delayed our install plans, but tomorrow (weather pending), HH will set up the "whale" dome at the new Silos on Sawyer property next to Winter Street Studios to test out our design concepts and trouble shoot. This awesome, generously donated location, will serve as a trial run before we set up at the Buffalo Bayou Partnership East End Silos (our performance venue) in July.

We have a number of helping hands ready to go, but this is a big job and we can't have enough volunteers. If you would like to help, please contact horseheadtheatreco@gmail.com, subject line "VOLUNTEER."

If you're not into outdoor work but would like to help our your Horse Head pals, consider making a donation on the "Donate Now" today - even a few buck helps! $5 will buy us a CASE of water while we toil away in the sun
$20 would buy us a much earned pizza...

Thank you for your support!

DOME PARTY!!!!

Inspiration images: we're having a WHALE of a time

From the desk of Troy Stanley, here are some images informing our design. Stay tuned for more!

Volunteer kick off! Getting down and dirty with HH

6/15/2015

We've kicked off the volunteer shop shifts this weekend - and I, Jacey Little, am happy to say I'm one of the first to come out! CLOSELY followed by Drake Simpson and Nathan Key :)

It's been a while since I worked in a shop, but damn it feels good to use my hands :) Especially for such worthy work. While Troy Stanley broke down pallets for our set dressing -- model images to come! -- I cut some rebar for our audience seating benches. Then we assembled the second lift for the dome's construction (which starts Monday 6/15/2015!!!).

Yup - that's right - we'll have non traditional seating at the show. No folding chairs for us! The seating is part of the design :)

Like what you see? Would you like to volunteer in the shop or at the event? Email us at horseheadtheatreco@gmail.com subject line "VOLUNTEER" and we will put you to work, friends!

Otherwise, we will see you at the show!

Exactly HOW big is a whale's heart?

6/12/2015

An interesting question came up at a design meeting as Yezminne and I were discussing Scene 9's ending:

"At last, gush after gust of clotted red gore,
As if it had been red wine, shot into the frighted air –

His heart had burst!"

Question: A burst whale heart? ... I mean... how big is that, even?

Answer: BIG.

On a related note - we need some big hearts in Houston to help us along the way with this project. If you're reading this blog, you're probably aware of our crowdfunding campaign. Out of a 30K budget for this show, we are asking the community to help us out part of the way.

If you have $1  - $10  - $100 - please consider donating! Every little bit counts. Your money will directly fund some killer art - and perhaps, the most exciting 2015 project in Houston.

Thus far - we are at 30% of our goal with just over 40 donors! This is fantastic and above average, but we have a long way to go....

Give us a "hand." Or think of it like buying us a drink... some people like that thought... raising a glass. How very Horse Head of you :)
